Product description:Glycogen, a DNA carrier, helps to maximize DNA yields when cell counts are low or when samples are diluted by large volumes of reagent used in purification. To maximize DNA yields using the Gentra Puregene Blood Kit, Glycogen Solution should be added to the isopropanol in the standard Gentra Puregene whole blood protocol when the white blood cell (WBC) count of a sample is ≤4 x 106 WBC/ml blood.

A normal white blood cell count is generally considered to be in the range of 5-10 x 106 WBC/ml of whole blood. If the reagent volumes in the standard Gentra Puregene protocol for 10 ml whole blood are not scaled down to accommodate a low WBC count (<5 x 106 WBC/ml), DNA yields may be lower than expected. Addition of glycogen helps to maximize DNA yields.
