Product Description:Ethylene dichloride (EDC) is used primarily in the production of vinyl chloride monomer. It is also an intermediate in the manufacture of trichloroethane and fluorocarbons and is used as a solvent. In California, EDC is also used as a reactant carrier in the production of solid fuel (CARB, 1997). EDC was commonly used as a gasoline additive to scavenge inorganic lead compounds. The transition to the use of lead-free gasoline has
essentially eliminated the use of EDC as a fuel additive in this country. EDC was also used as a soil fumigant but is no longer registered for this use on agricultural products in the United States.
